About Us

EFA is a non-profit association whose mission is to offer French classes to students who do not attend French immersion schools. The association was formed in 2011 by a group of French families who wanted some formal education in French for their children, who attend Austin-area public schools. The goal was to help children master reading and writing, either to be prepared to return to school in France or simply to support their skills in French.

From this beginning, EFA has grown into an organization dedicated to teaching French to all. In addition to classes for children of native speakers (FLAM - français langue maternelle) we offer beginning French classes (FLE - français langue étrangère) to students of all backgrounds.

Acquisition of linguistic and cultural fluency is the underlying goal of all our classes. Rigorous academic work and engaging activities (Movie Club, Afternoon boardgames) or French immersion camps during the holidays, motivate students to learn to read, write, and share French language and culture.

A team of professionals

EFA's teachers work in collaboration and meet regularly.

  • Our teachers are chosen for their experience, their personality, and their mastery of French. All hold a diploma from a French institution of higher education.

  • For some classes, an assistant is also present. Assistants are native French speakers with experience working with children.

At the heart of our association

EFA's volunteers make it all happen by managing events and fundraisings!

A diverse, dynamic group

Students come to EFA with different backgrounds and levels of French. Our open and welcoming environment supports students' confidence and helps them develop their skills .

Our students want to develop or maintain mastery of academic French. They commit themselves to weekly classes and study, in addition to their regular schoolwork.

In the beginning, it wasn't easy to get up on Saturday morning, but I came to appreciate the chance to see my friends and I could see that I was making a lot of progress in French.
